Licence fees for gun owners in Western Australia will skyrocket, some by around $100, from 1 July as a new price structure comes into effect.
The biggest hits to hip pockets will be for individuals and collectors paying for new licences and additional firearms noting, but most fees are to be increased.
A shooter who wants to add a firearm to their licence will pay more than twice the previous rate as the fee jumps from $72.50 to $169.50.
Collectorâs adding a new firearm will be hit even harder, the current fee of $72.50 increasing by more than $100 to $179.20.
Shooters and Fishers Party MLC Rick Mazza said there was no justification for the huge rises.
âNot only do we have an inefficient service, they are going to slug the firearm community with unconscionable increases,â he said.
The fee increases are apparently being implemented as part of government efforts to make the department revenue-neutral, but on top of the demonstrable mismanagement of the firearm licensing system the cash grab is only making the state’s shooters more angry.Â
