Hunters shoot down animal-rights spy drone

Hunters have shot down four unmanned spy drones over a pigeon shoot, in what’s being called a war between the shooters and animals right activists.

The confrontation between Philadelphia’s Wing Pointe hunting grounds and a group calling itself Showing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK) has been going on since the activists vowed to shut down the commercial hunting operation.

SHARK has been trying to get ‘secret’ footage of pigeon shooting inside the Wing Pointe enclosure, but when tall fences and trees around the hilltop grounds prevented them getting in they turned to the drones.

The latest downing of a drone, an Octocopter fitted with a high-definition camera, did about $4000 damage, according to SHARK, although the group did manage to land it safely.

A spokesman for the group said a rifle shot appeared to have been fired at the spy craft.

Wing Pointe management has declined to comment.

Police are investigating the incident, but it is not clear what laws may have been broken.

Meanwhile, hunters elsewhere in the US are inviting SHARK to fly drones over their hunts.
