Q: I own a Weatherby six-lug Mark V Ultra Lightweight rifle that I have just had rebarrelled with a 24” barrel in 6.5-284 Norma. It weighs 7lb (3.2kg) all up.
I believe you once had a Winchester Model 70 in this calibre, so maybe you could give me some of your best loads with a range of bullet weights so that I can attempt to duplicate them?
I would work up from 3gn below. The powders I have are AR2209, AR2213sc, Re-22 and Re-25.

A: Back in 2003 I bought a Winchester Model 70 with 24” Tobler barrel from my mate Ken Harding. He had it built for fly shooting and although it was a bit heavy, I did some hunting with it.
My reloads had an overall cartridge length of 3”. My best loads were:
- Sierra 85gn, 56gn AR2209, 3420fps;
- Hornady 100gn, 54gn AR2209, 3290fps;
- Barnes 120gn TSX, 54gn Re-22, 3190fps;
- Barnes 130gn TSX, 53gn Re-22, 3080fps;
- Woodleigh 140gn, 54gn Re-25, 2801fps;
- Norma 156gn Oryx, 52gn Re-25, 2715fps;
- Woodleigh 160gn, 48gn of Re-22, 2645fps.
All of these loads were safe in my rifle and gave excellent accuracy.
