Pard Leopard 640 LRF thermal

First look: Pard Leopard 640 LRF thermal monocular

It’s so small! The Pard Leopard 640 is refreshingly petite compared with the majority of thermal monoculars, lacking their bulk and weight and therefore being much better to cart around.

It’s only 18cm long, 6cm wide and 5cm high, it weighs just 367g with battery and strap, and get this — that all incorporates its built-in laser rangefinder.

See Leopard footage in our video above

The Leopard will drop into the pockets of most outdoor pants and jackets, and it fits easily into even small hands.

Yet at the same time it’s design makes it big enough that most hands will be able to work their around the controls without any trouble.

The four buttons on top handle all the important functions, and they’re arranged in line along the Pard’s spine with enough texture that you can tell which one you’re pressing at any moment.

The 35mm lens gives a nice, broad field of view 12.5° wide at the Pard’s base optical magnification of 2.6x, and digital zoom steps it up as far as 17.6x.

I like the fact it takes a replaceable, rechargeable 3.7 volt 18650 battery. I’ve been getting about four hours out of one, give or take.

The optical quality of the Leopard is fairly typical of thermals in this $3000 price bracket, but you can learn more about that in our longer review. It’s impressive in something so small!

Pard is distributed in Australia by Australian Sporting Agencies. The Leopard 640 35mm LRF has a RRP of $2999. Details and specifications are available here.
