SmartRest UTV Cross Bar gun mount

First look: SmartRest UTV Cross Bar gun mount

SmartRest’s UTV Cross Bar is a simple but ingenious setup for anyone who shoots from a side-by-side or just about about any shooting wagon without a windscreen.

It consists of a central section made of square tube, two round end tubes and a couple of U-bolts.

This video shows the Cross Bar and Gun Cradle in action

With some strategically drilled holes and grub screws in solid threads, it’ll mount to the A-pillars of a UTV or car to provide a rest to shoot from.

Add the optional SmartRest Gun Cradle and you have a stable platform to strap your rifle into, ready to swing into a shooting position in seconds.

The Gun Cradle moves on a pivot bar with ball bearings at each end, and it is an accuracy-enhancing rest that you can shoot from in a wide arc, both left- and right-handed.

An ARCA rail clamps the setup in place for transport and it takes only a few seconds to deploy it.

The optional Gun Cradle acts as both a secure rack for your rifle when travelling and a stable platform to shoot from

Once you adjust it to fit you best, it’s quick, accurate and natural to shoot from.

You don’t have to worry about your rifle being balanced precariously in the cabin and getting in the way.

The Cross Bar has enough adjustment laterally to shift the Gun Cradle left or right of centre to suit you.

The angle of the A-pillars doesn’t matter because the central tube can be rotated around the outer tubes to ensure the cradle sits upright. Tighten the grub screws and it all stays in place.

U-bolts anchor the bar to your UTV. The square-section central tube can be shifted left/right and rotated around the outer round bars

I’ve been out several times with this setup and found it exceptionally convenient. The rifle is protected inside the frame, it’s in reach for quick use, shooting is easy and accuracy is great.

The Cross Bar sells for $250, and the cradle starts at $185. See the details on the Eagleye Hunting Gear website.
