Ironman 4×4 recovery gear

When away hunting or camping, particularly on the back roads, it pays to throw some recovery gear in the back for peace of mind. In addition to an extensive range of ropes, straps and recovery tools, Ironman 4×4 also offers complete recovery kits that come packaged in a storage bag.

Three separate kits are available to help get you out of trouble. These include the Starter Kit, a Sand Mud & Snow Kit and the Pro Recovery Kit.

The Starter Kit offers a 9m snatch strap with 8000kg rating suitable for vehicles around three to four tonnes. It also includes two steel bow shackles, a 3m “tree saver” strap, 20m winch extension rope, a recovery winch blanket for safety when operating your winch and a pair of Kevlar recovery gloves. And it all comes neatly packaged in a small recovery storage bag.

The Sand Mud & Snow kit includes a 9m kinetic snatch rope with 9500kg rating suitable for three- to four-tonne vehicles. The kit also includes a pair of soft shackles, steel tow-bar recovery hitch, recovery winch blanket and a small storage bag. It is designed more for vehicle-to-vehicle recovery and doesn’t require a winch.

The Pro Recovery Kit provides everything you need for advanced recovery situations. It includes a 9m kinetic snatch rope, a 3m bridle equaliser rope, two soft shackles, 3m tree-saver strap, 20m winch extension rope, aluminium recovery ring, recovery winch blanket, Kevlar gloves and a large storage bag to keep it all in.

As a testament to how well made this gear is, editor Mick Matheson has had an Ironman recovery kit for 20 years, and has used it extensively. The gloves and bag are long worn out, and the blanket is fraying, but the rest is still going strong.

These kits range from $400 to $999 and are available through Ironman 4×4 stockists.
