Flood plain buffalo in NT

Long Shots At Buffalo

Q: I just read in the latest Guns & Ammo about an American hunter in the N.T who shot
a buffalo at a range of 450 yards using a  .338 Lapua Magnum topped with a
Leupold VX-6 3-18x scope with Horus reticle.  The load was a 250gn Sierra Game King
at 2890fps. I regard this as more of a stunt than anything as it is not difficult to
stalk much closer to a buffalo even across an open plain. What’s your thoughts
about this kind of thing?

Aubrey Joyce

A: Well, for a start I like to do my buffalo hunting close up and personal.
I’m puzzled that they only loaded the 250gn Sierra Game King to 2890fps as
I can drive the same missile at 2820fps from my long-throated .338 Win.
Mag. However, I won’t criticise the guy because anything that gives you
pleasure you should do, as my old girlfriend used to say.
