An official Parliamentary Petition has opened in NSW calling for Premier Chris Minns to delayed his rushed re-write of the state’s firearms laws after the Bondi Beach terror attack.

Shooters in NSW are flooding it with signatures, to the point where the site has been unable to handle the volume as numbers grow rapidly.

The upper house petition, launched by Daniel Sharp and backed my Libertarian Party MP John Ruddick, reads:

“To the President and Members of the Legislative Council, the petitioners of NSW and Australia state that rushing gun reform without taking an evidence based approach will hurt all Australians, through second and third order effects. The petitioners request that the House delay the rushed gun reforms proposed by Premier Minns, allowing time to assess their impact on Australians and to develop effective laws that genuinely reduce the risk of a terrorist attack like the one seen in Bondi.”

It is open only until Boxing Day, 26 December, but many people are urging quick action so that a large number of signatures will be evidence before parliament votes on Minns’ legislation on Tuesday, 22nd.

The second petition makes two requests of the Legislative Assembly:

1. That it refrain from classifying, describing, or regulating licensed, law-abiding firearms owners in a manner that associates them with terrorism or extremist activity; and

2. That it ensures firearms policy and legislation is proportionate, evidence-based, and clearly distinguishes licensed firearms owners from criminal or terrorist actors.

Shooters should immediately sign both and and share it among their friends and families. Use the links above.
