Ten Australian shooters, including Trap gold medallist Catherine Skinner, will represent the nation at the 2024 Summer Olympic games in Paris in rifle, pistol and shotgun competition.
The Paris Games kick of on 26 July with an opening ceremony in which all 10,500 athletes will parade on boats down the River Seine. Shooting events are scheduled to begin the next day.
The Australian team is an experienced one, with plenty of Olympic history behind it.
Joshua Bell, who will shoot in both the Men’s and Mixed Teams Skeet competitions, is the team’s only Olympic debutant.
His most experience team mate is 37-year-old Dane Sampson, who will be attending his fourth consecutive Olympics to compete in two rifle events, the Men’s 50m 3 Positions and Men’s 10m Air Rifle.
Elena Galiabovitch (Women’s 10m Air Pistol and 25m Pistol), jack Rossiter (Men’s 50m Rifles and 10m Air Rifle) and james Willet (Men’s Trap) have each competed twice before.
Sergei Evglevski (Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol), Aislin Jones (Women’s and Mixed Teams Skeet), Penny Smith (Women’s Trap), Mitchell Iles (Men’s Trap) and Skinner are all making their second appearances.
Their selection followed an intense qualification period.
“This year’s team captures some incredible talent,” Shooting Australia CEO Adam Sachs said.
Australian Federal MP and pistol shooter Daniel Repacholi was hoping to qualify for his fifth Olympic Games but fell just short in the final round of qualifying. He has previously won Gold and Bronze in the Commonwealth Games.
