The first Easter Classic was held in 1983 then was known as the Rothwell classic. The event is conducted by NSW Field and Game and has grown in stature ever since and now, in its 32nd year, the 2015 Easter Classic promises to be the best one yet.
For those of you unfamiliar with this event, it is one of the premium sporting clay events held in the country. Always held at Easter “The Classic” itself is a 2 day 200 target event on the Saturday and Sunday, sandwiched between the 20 gauge State Title on the Friday and the side by side State Title on Monday. It’s like a giant sporting clays deluxe burger.
With 350 targets over four days it is the largest annual club calendar event in the country. Friday’s 20 gauge state title will be over 75 targets kicking off at 10.00am. There are over $1,200 dollars’ worth of prizes with sashes for 1st in all grades. An over under event is run as well with grade prizes.
The main event kicks off on Saturday morning at 8.30am. Saturday incorporates a state title selection shoot and the Adrian Hayes memorial teams shoot. Sunday comprises the final 100 targets of the two day shoot. Prizes over these two days amount to well over $4,500. With sashes for first in all grades on both days.
Then, if you still haven’t had your fill, front up on Monday for the State Side x Side Championship 75 targets kicking off at 9.00am. Prizes value $1,200.
Some camping is available on site, although at this stage we don’t have showers. If you like to smell nice and shoot clean, Buckenderra Holiday Village is a club sponsor and ten minutes away (info@buckenderra.com.au. Ph.1800 339 461),
Failing that, Cooma is the gateway to the Snowy Mountains and always has accommodation in the summer months. Try the Nebula Motel, another club sponsor (info@nebulacooma.com Ph.02 64 524 133).
So if the Easter egg hunt just doesn’t seem to be doing it for you any more, we look forward to seeing you at the 32nd Cooma Easter Classic. More information about this terrific event can be found on line HERE or in this information sheet.
Like any large event it would not be possible without great support from our sponsors:
