The Australian gun control lobby has again called for limits on the number of firearms a person may own.
Gun Control Australia and the Greens have reacted to the release of figures showing Victoria’s 20 most prolific gun owners have 1625 firearms between them.
GCA’s Roland Browne told the Herald Sun he wants police to “change their approach to licensing” while Greens spokesperson Sue Pennicuik was quoted as asking, “Why would you need that many [guns]?”
She also said, “We need to reduce the number in circulation.”
NSW Greens have tried in the past to move legislation that would limit owners to three firearms.
It is not clear whether those 20 gun owners are collectors have other reasons for owning them.
The gun control lobby has been linking the number of guns owned by individuals to the number stolen, and considers the issue one of public safety.
Victorian Police Minister Kim Wells told the Herald Sun the government would not place a limit on the number of guns someone can own.
