Meet the team: Clint Magro

Name and birthplace?

Clint Joseph Magro. I was born in Wollongong Hospital and brought up in Shellharbour.

When did you first start hunting?

I started hunting when I was a kid. I remember Dad used to drag/carry my brother and I up and down hills after bunnies and foxes out Golspie way!

What are your three favourite species to hunt?

Pigs are definitely my favourite, but I love hunting deer in the rut as well as tahr/chamois in NZ.

What’s your favourite hunting technique?

My favourite technique is ‘ute finding’ (cruising around the western NSW crops with dogs scenting from the ute). Nothing beats it!

What’s your favourite hunting destination?

Country NSW is just the best place. Fresh air, not populated and wide open spaces!

Tell us about the top three favourite firearms that you own (or bows).

My Remington .270 is a great all-round gun, my Harrington and Richardson .30/06 has shot just about everything and Dad’s old .22 Browning Pump he gave me!

When did you start writing/working for Sporting Shooter?

I started over ten years ago, writing for Sporting Shooter through my good friend Tony Pizzata and the rest is history. I’ve been editing Bacon Busters for over seven years now!

What do you enjoy about writing/working for a hunting magazine?

I love meeting new people who have the same interests!

What is the best or most satisfying article you have written for Sporting Shooter?

‘Ute Findin’ Out Yonder’ was published over ten years ago. It was about an awesome pig hunt I had at Walgett with my best mates, being my Dad and brother Travis. We caught some ripper boars over the ton!

What advice can you give anyone wanting to get in to hunting writing?

Magazines are always after new creative writers as everyone’s hunting adventures are unique. We all come from different backgrounds with a story to tell!

Please supply three of your favourite hunting photos from past or present.

Clint and his Dad caught this pig in Arhemland a few years ago.

Bacon Busters editor Clint Magro's favourite game is...you guessed it...feral pigs!
