On a recent episode of the ABC’sLandline program, I watched with interest a short piece onAustralia’s feral goat problem. The report focused on Victoria’ssecond largest National Park covering more than 630,000 hectares inthe states north-west. Reporter Tim Lee said that Goats had provenhard to control, so hard that Parks Victoria embarked on a bold andunconventional strategy, to use private shooters. After three trialsover several years, Parks Victoria joined forces with the SportingShooters Association and the program has become increasinglyefficient, where by goat numbers have dropped dramatically.

It’s a pity N.S.W. doesn’t followsuit in our National Parks and see the benefits game licensedrecreational shooters have to offer in this effective method that nodoubt would do a lot of good. We have already proven that in ourstate forests. To see the full report
