Sporting Shooters Association of Australia’s NSW branch has announced an ambitious plan to increase membership by 40% in two years.
This will involve raising current membership of 43,000 to 50,000 during 2013 and then to 60,000 in 2014.
If it succeeds, it will take what is already the state’s largest sports shooting organisation and cement its place as a strong and influential competition, hunting and lobby group.
SSAA NSW plans to make most of its gains by signing up junior members, with a particular focus on the families of existing members.
It will be underpinned by the rapid growth in recreational shooting over the past decade or so.
“These are ambitious numbers, but the popularity of the safe, fun and unique range of shooting sports has exploded in recent years,” SSAA NSW president Paul McNabb said.
“Shooting is a sport that anyone can enjoy.
“We have members in every corner of NSW and with 48 branches operating throughout the state people interested in learning more about the sport will not have to look far to get involved.
“One of the best ways we can promote the sport is by encouraging active members to bring their wives, sons, daughters even grandparents along to the range and have a go under the watchful eye of trained safety officers,” Mr McNabb said.
