SSAA Queensland has initiated a bursary program with grants of up to $2000 for people undertaking “pursuits, studies and research in areas that foster the shooting sports”.
The payments are available under a very wide range of topics, which the organisation lists as including biodiversity, criminology, conservation, ecology, engineering, firearm manufacturing, game movements and habits, land management, media bias, statistics, sports training, veterinary science, and trades such as gunsmithing, knife making and tools.
The bursary is an Australia-wide initiative, but SSAA Queensland says its members and their families will receive preference in the allocation of the grants.
Funds will be awarded through two relatively new organisations set up by SSAA Queensland, the Australia Institute of Legislative Action (AILA) and the Australian Shooters Association (ASA).
Applications may be made annually and will be assessed by a panel.
Applicants are required to describe what their project involves and provide a breakdown of how they will spend any funds awarded to them.
Applications can be made through the SSAA-Q website.
