SFF announces Tasmanian candidates

The Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party of Tasmania (SFF Tasmania) has formally announced its candidates for the 2025 federal election, confirming it will contest seats in the senate and the lower house electorate of Lyons.

The Senate campaign is being spearheaded by party secretary Phillip Bigg — who is also the president of Shooters Union Tasmania — with running mate Melanie Roach.

The official announcement says they are “a supportive team united by a shared commitment to defending personal freedoms, protecting regional communities, and restoring common-sense governance.

“Together, they bring real-world experience and a drive to deliver better results for those who have lost their voice.

“Their priorities include restoring transparency in government, opposing overregulation and oppressive legislation. Both strive to see generational growth by standing up for regional communities that have been overlooked for too long.”

In the House of Representatives (lower house), Carlo DiFalco is the candidate for the seat of Lyons and is campaigning on issues including stronger local economies, better infrastructure, and respect for traditional industries including agriculture, forestry, and fishing.

“We’re offering Tasmanians a genuine alternative — candidates who won’t toe a party line dictated by elitists or career politicians,” said Phillip Bigg.

“We believe in restoring balance, protecting freedoms, and putting everyday Australians first.”

As you’d hope from a party with “Shooters” in its name, SFF Tasmania has a pro-firearms platform, which states the party “recognises the cultural and economic significance of farming, recreational hunting and sports shooting and support the rights of law-abiding Tasmanians to continue to own and use firearms to pursue these activities”.

The policy goes on to say: “It has long been our position that oppressive firearms legislations only hurt lawful firearms owners and do very little to impede or reduce illegal gun crime and activity.

“Good firearms regulation must enhance community safety whilst not unduly impeding on the freedoms and rights of law-abiding citizens.

“The focus of enforcement needs to be on criminals who misuse firearms as opposed to the wasteful and misdirected over-regulation of law-abiding firearms owners.”

The Federal Election is being held on Saturday, 3 May. A full list of candidates can be found at https://www.abc.net.au/news/elections/federal/2025/guide/candidates
