Polaris Sportsman 500 X2 EFI

Sandy Maher and Co take the Polaris Sportsman 500 X2 on a seven day hunting trip, do 802km worth of testing and declare it to be most capable.

THE “X” FACTOR
A long weekend in October at a 230,000 acre outback pre arranged property provided the ideal opportunity to commence a gruelling seven day test for the Polaris X2 ATV. True to his word Rob Woods of Polaris, who was keen to get hunters’ feedback on his quads, organised the delivery of a new Polaris Sportsman 500 X2 a day prior to our departure. It was a relief to find that despite its two-rider capacity, the Sportsman X2 EFI could easily be loaded into our 7’ x 5’6’’ trailer (alongside my Suzuki DRZ 400 trail bike) using a set of alloy loading ramps and see how effortlessly it towed behind our Landcruiser.

It was also immediately apparent that the quad with its sophisticated 499cc single cylinder electronically fuel injected (EFI) motor coupled to a rugged tubular steel chassis and featuring class leading suspension travel was no dinky-toy but a very serious piece of equipment and one with the potential to meet the demands of Australia’s discerning hunting fraternity. In this regard, Rob had also kindly supplied two optional Polaris Gun Scabbards featuring Polaris’s excellent “Lock & RideTM attachment technology which allows the items to be installed or removed from the X2 within 10 seconds (simply at the flick of a locking latch). These items proved to be ideal and inherently stable during the test and we couldn’t recommend them highly enough to any prospective hunter (or farmer) wanting a secure gun scabbard that can be added or removed as necessary.
