What’s new from Total Knife Care?

The Nirey KE-3000 is a mid range knife sharpener from Total Knife Care which fits nicely between its two current offerings, the recreational market’s KE-198 and the Professional KE-280 model reviewed in the March 2008 issue.

The KE-3000 looks very similar to the KE- 280 Professional and operates in exactly the same way but it is in the motor where the difference exists. The KE-3000 is a lighter duty setup whose motor revs higher at a lower torque, but it uses the same replacement belts as the Professional model. One could see it being used by pro roo shooters or fisherman on a daily or weekly basis in combination with a fine steel to keep a very keen edge.

The KE-3000 is a little shorter than the 280 but the smart polycarbonate dark grey housing is just as rugged and designed for safety just like its big brother. It’s just as fast to get an edge and operates exactly the same as the 280. With it you will impart a fine edge to your blades. The new sharpener is also a little quieter as well.

Maintenance is very simple. There is a wingscrew in the base of the unit which you undo, after disconnecting from the power, to remove the top safety cover. Once open use a paint brush to remove any metal dust that has accumulated inside. Inspect the replaceable belts and reassemble, then give the unit a wipe-over with a moist cloth and you’re ready to go again.
