Savage .22 Hi-Power from .30-30 Win

Q
I recently obtained a Savage Model 99 rifle topped with a Bushnell 3-9x scope with pop-up post reticle. The rifle and scope are in excellent condition and I want to shoot and reload for it. However, I’ve found loaded ammunition impossible to get. Can Savage .22 Hi-Power brass be formed from .30-30 brass, and if so, how do I go about it?

A
You can form .22 Savage Hi-Power brass by sizing .30-30 cases in a .25-35 die, then in a .22 Hi-Power die. Trim length to 2.048″ and ream the necks if necessary. I am sure this will need doing as necks will thicken considerably during the necking down process. But why go to all this trouble when Sellier & Bellot ammo is available? Hornady makes 70gn .228 bullets which are good performers.
