One scratched Remington 700 bolt face – how can it be prevented?

Avoid scratched locking lugs

Q I recently noticed that the surfaces of the locking lugs on two of my bolt-action rifles are scratched and scuffed. Some are quite deep. How can this be prevented?

A Scratches and scuffs on the locking lugs can be prevented by keeping the contact surfaces coated with a light film of lubricant. The best lube I’ve found for this purpose is Nulon L90 Extreme Pressure Anti-Seize Lubricant. I also use a light film on the bolt body which makes the bolt operate more smoothly.
