Here is a list of actions and contacts for you to use before the NSW Government’s new gun law go before parliament tomorrow. Act now!
NSW PARLIAMENTARY PETITIONS
There are epetitions running, both already at record numbers, and these will not directly affect policy but will show the huge level of concern among shooters and, therefore, voters. The Legislative Assembly petition will be debated in parliament after it closes. All NSW residents should sign them.
- Legislative Assembly petition (house of representatives)
- Legislative Council petition (upper house)Â
QUICK, EASY, HIGH VOLUME
The Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party has a pro-forma letter here that is part of a campaign based on hitting politicians with huge numbers of messages. You can read about the benefits of this campaign here, but essentially it is about flooding MPs’ inboxes with a volume of correspondence that in itself makes a huge impact.
PERSONALLY CONTACT YOUR MP, SENATORS AND OTHER POLITICIANS
Write a personal letter to your local MP, regardless of what party they’re from. Also contact senators All politicians need to know how we feel and that this matter will have ramifications come the next election.
This link contains a list of all contact details for NSW members of parliament.Â
If you do not know which NSW electorate you are in, look here.Â
The Shooting Industry Foundation of Australia has published a nation-wide source of contacts. We cannot let politicians in other states think this is OK (even Labor in WA).
Include your name, full address (which shows them that you are in their electorate) and a contact phone number. Keep the letter reasonably short and to the point. Introduce yourself, state why you are writing, and explain your concerns. Naturally, be polite and respectful. This is personal communication, not an online vent!
SHOOTING ORGANISATION MEMBERS
If you’re a member of organisations like SSAA, Shooters Union, ADA and others make sure you check your emails. Organisations have been sending messages containing advice, information and actions you can take.
SHARING SOCIALS
Share, share and share on whatever social media you use.
One good source of material to share is the SSAA NSW Facebook page, which has been disseminating professional, impactful messages that resonate.
You may find material that resonates for you on various pages of politicians, including (but certainly not limited to): Mark Banasiak, Robert Borsak, Roy Butler, Phil Donato, Bridget McKenzie, John Ruddick. You can, of course, find most of them on Instagram, X and other platforms. These are only NSW state politicians.Â
