Aussie junior rifle athletes on fire at Plzen GP

South Aussie juniors Jack Rossiter (Onkaparinga Hills, SA) and Emma Adams (Old Reynella, SA) have begun the 2014 international season on a very high note at the Plzen Grand Prix in the Czech Republic, winning three out of a possible four gold medals in the matches they competed in.

Rossiter displayed stoic form to win the first competition with a solid score of 616.1 (qualification 588) + 204.2, which is his personal best score so far. On the second day of competition, Rossiter maintained his dominance in the junior men’s air rifle event by winning the gold medal yet again after shooting another solid 614.6 + 203.9. Rossiter’s excellent form at last year’s Oceania Championship in Sydney has clearly paved the way for a successful trend in his shooting career.

15-year-old current Australian number one Adams performed very well on the first day of competition, having shot 409.5 (qualification 390) + 99.7. On the second day, Adams dug deep and held her nerve to win the gold medal match on an impressive score of 414.3 + 205.1.

Australian International Shooting Limited CEO Damien Marangon congratulated the juniors on their success.

“Jack and Emma have displayed confidence beyond their years, consistently showing their remarkable skill at domestic and international competitions,” Marangon said.

“Both juniors are definitely going to be forces to reckon with!”

Dane Sampson (Findon, SA) was the third Australian to achieve a spot in the finals at this competition, after having shot a new Australian best score of 624.4 (595) in the qualification round. Sampson finished in sixth place in the men’s final.

William Godward (Kilkenny, SA) and Maria Rebling (Woonona, NSW), also on tour with the rifle team, have shown improvement in their shooting over the competition.

The Plzen GP which ran from 9 to 11 January attracted 306 competitors from 21 countries. This event is the first leg of a European Air Gun tour for the team.

The Rifle team will compete next weekend (17 – 21 January) at the Meyton Cup in Austria, where they will be joined by the Australian Pistol team.
