While labeling BarryO’Farrell a “lazy premier” for entertaining the sell-off ofNSW power assets for less than they are worth, Shooters and FishersParty (SFP) MP Robert Borsak has flagged that they would veto anysale, with the exception being a $50 billion sale price, protectionof workers’ jobs and unaffected power prices to the consumer.
In a desperate move tofinance promised road and rail infrastructure projects, Mr O’Farrellhas adopted precisely the position of his old opponent, Morris Iemma, when the same proposal sank his premiership. Mr Borsak said, “Itwould free up a lot of money for the state but would also make a verylazy Premier even lazier.”
With the threat of foreignownership of our power generation industry a distinct possibility ifthe sale goes ahead, we are on a slippery slope where we are temptedto sell off more strategic, revenue generating assets, which willleave us all the poorer as a state and nation. If the price achievedin a sale is many multiples of what governments seem to want torealise, then at least we have a financial resource that can fundother better strategic infrastructure.
Selling off the farm for apittance will impoverish all Australians.
