Illegal Hunting Leads to Seized Firearms


As the Rural Crimes teams targets illegal hunting activities, more poachers lose their firearms for their troubles.
Monaro Rural Crime Investigators have charged a 29-year-old male and a 27-year-old female from Araluen, after receiving a report about illegal hunting in Araluen area in early October 2021.
Subsequent investigations resulted in Rural Crime Investigators from Monaro, The Hume, Camden and Monaro PD General duties officers executing a search warrant at an Araluen residence on the 19th October 2021.
During the search warrant an unauthorised firearm, hunting equipment and quantity of registered firearms were seized by police.
On the 2nd November 2021 the accused male was issued with a court attendance notice for Hunt animal on public land without authority, Owner of dog attacks animal, Possess unauthorised pistol, Not keep firearm safe and Possess unauthorised firearm.
On the 8th November 2021 the accused female was issued with a court attendance notice for Hunt animal on public land without authority, Possess unauthorised pistol, Not keep firearm safe, Give firearm to unauthorised person and Holder of Cat A. B not have approve firearms storage.
Both accused persons will appear before Queanbeyan on the 17th January 2022.
