Man Flown 600kms after being gored by Buffalo

Care flight NT reported a 61-year-old man was airlifted from remote Arnhem Land yesterday, after he was gored by a buffalo.

The experienced safari tour guide suffered lacerations and suspected fractures when he was attacked by the buffalo at around 10.30am about 170km north-west of Numbulwar.

It is believed the buffalo charged at another man who had fallen to the ground, when the tour guide put himself between the buffalo and the man.

Local clinic staff picked him up at his remote location and drove for several hours on an unsealed road back to Numbulwar, where the injured man was met by a flight nurse on board a CareFlight King Air turbo prop aircraft.

CareFlight, who operates the Top End Retrieval Service on behalf of the Northern Territory Government, airlifted the man to Royal Darwin Hospital, where he arrived at around 8pm in a stable condition.

The CareFlight crew praised Numbulwar clinic staff for their efforts in undertaking emergency treatment and bringing the man back to Numbulwar airstrip.

As more new unfolds we will update the article
