Shooters will have a voice in the new Tasmania parliament after Shooters Fishers and Famers candidate Carlo Di Falco was confirmed today as the new Member for Lyons.
Mr Di Falco will be one of at least five candidates sitting on a crossbench that will hold significant sway over the state in the coming term.
Neither the Liberal or Labor parties have taken a majority, with 14 and 10 seats respectively in the 35-seat house, and the Greens have five seats. As this story is uploaded, one seat is still in doubt.
Mr Di Falco says he does not favour Liberal or Labor but will cooperate on supply with whoever forms government.
In a statement, the SFF said, “More than a decade ago, we set out to build something in Tasmania. Back then, we were told we’d never make it — that no one would vote for us because of Port Arthur.
“Carlo stood for us eight times since then. To everyone who said it couldn’t be done — this one’s for you.
“For too long, law-abiding firearms owners have been painted with the wrong brush. We are more than just shooting and hunting, we are about all communities and transparency, especially those of the bush.”
