Last week Elizabeth Kosmala was recognised for her excellent contribution to sport as she was named as Australia’s 13th greatest sportswoman of all time at a gala dinner in Canberra.
The recognition came during the Sportswomen’s Ball which was part of the Sport for Women Day.
Libby is one of Australia’s most decorated shooters and last year made her 11th appearance at a Paralympic Games when she competed in London.
Libby’s contribution to the sport of shooting has spanned over four decades and her crowning moment was the four gold medals she won at the 1984 Paralympic Games.
With nine Paralympic gold medals next to her name in shooting, Libby has also been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in 1985, Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and a Centenary Medal in 2001.
Australian International Shooting Limited CEO Nick Sullivan said Kosmala was fully deserving of her recognition.
“Libby has made a superb contribution not just to the sport of shooting, but to sport in general in Australia and also internationally,” Sullivan said.
“Her record speaks for itself, and to have competed at 11 Paralympic Games for Australia is an outstanding achievement.
“Libby has also played a large part in advocating equality for people with a disability and is a very important figure in the history of the Paralympic Games.”
