Pig hunters in the Upper Hunter Valley, NSW, are being warned to be vigilant after a hunter acquired a rare bacterial disease, according to this report from the ABC. The article says that last week a northern New South Wales pig hunter became the third person infected with Brucellosis this year.

Amnesty in SA

Police in South Australia have announced that a firearms amnesty will run from December until next June, with plans being made to legislate for a permanent amnesty. According to a report from the ABC, anyone in illegal possession of a firearm, gun parts or ammunition will be able to surrender them without any action being taken against them by authorities.

RSPCA must pay for cattle kill

Last month the RSPCA lost its appeal against an order to pay more than a million dollars compensation after it illegally and unnecessarily killed 131 cattle in Victoria.  According to the Weekly Times, RSPCA boffin Liz Walker said this week that the money would not come from taxpayers, while MP James Purcell wants a review of Government funding of what has become an animal rights organisation.
