The cover of the June issue of Sporting Shooter is graced by a photo of a big Sunday Island hog deer stag, belying the fact that there are two hog deer hunting stories inside. The feature piece is an article by yours truly, recounting my son Lachy’s successful hunt in the Para Park junior ballot last lear. Then, later in the mag, old hand Nick Harvey gives us all some top tips about how to knock over our own trophies.
In other hunting stories, there’s a great piece by Leon Wright about shotgunning rabbits over ferrets – I’ve always wanted to try that. Meanwhile the indefatigable Gary Hall tells of his latest pig hunting adventure on which his companion Ted Mitchell shot a big boar that was already dead.
Steven Spiekman has provided a top ‘how to’ piece about setting up a 7mm Remington Magnum for hunting, while Editor O’Dean has written a great little article on how working on targets and trigger release can pay immediate dividends in the field.
Gun guru Nick Harvey has been busy reviewing two firearms. First he takes a look at the German-made Weirach HW 60J Thumbhole rimfire rifle in .22 WMR, and follows that up with a run down of the Sabati Rover Inox Stainless Sporter bolt-action rifles from Italy.
In other product news, we have the latest on Eley’s newest range of field shotgun shells, Gloryfy unbreakable sunglasses and the Leatherman Tread, the word’s first wearable multitool.
We also have all our usual departments, competitions, photographs, hunting tips and new gear to make this issue a cracking read. Grab your copy at you local newsagent or gunshop or, better still, subscribe HERE.
