The 2012 Wild Deer Hunting & Guiding Expo was held at Bendigo, Victoria on the 4th and 5th February and hailed a huge success. Marcus and I were in attendance offering us both the opportunity to rub shoulders with many of our valued advertisers and to chat with many of our readers. Reports of in excess of 11,000 visitors through the door by lunch time didn’t surprise us either, as the venue remained full to the brim from start to finish. In fact, I’m told on the Monday night, WIN News quoted a figure of 20,000 visitors to the show for the weekend and Daniel Bourke has since confired those figures were pretty close.
Featuring in excess of 260 sites both indoors and out, on showcase were a huge array of hunting guides, firearm distributors, knife makers, taxidermists, gun shops, boats, archery and much, much more.
On the Saturday night a 300 seat dinner and auction was held with the auction of donated firearms, guided hunts and other associated product. The proceeds I’m told will be donated to the SIKA Foundation (cancer in kids) which totalled in excess of $30,000.
Congratulations to Pete Costin and Daniel Bourke and their families for a job well done.
