Mossberg 817 Varmintright

Since its founding in 1919, the Firm of O.F Mossberg has pionered many “big gun” features in their rimfire rifles. The new Model 817 with man-sized stock and beefy barrel delivers excellent accuracy.

The firm of O.F Mossberg has always been noted for rather brawny .22 rifles, but the bulk was always more muscle than fat. The man-sized stocks and hand-filling forends are apparent in their latest offering the latest Model 817 rimfire varmint rifle chambered for the sizzling .17 HMR which complements the accuracy of their AC-KRO-GRUV rifling.

The 817 has a stainless action fitted with a heavy stainless bull barrel. Because the bore in the .17 barrel is  so small, barrels have thicker walls than those on similar .22 Magnum barrels. Even standard weight .17 barrels are stiff. which is only one of the factors that contribute to their excellent accuracy. In addition .17 HMR ammunition is loaded with premium bullets, such as the Hornady V-Max.

The Model 817 has a hardwood stock with Monte Carlo comb and full pistol grip and rounded forend and is as innocent of checkering as a pollie is of ethics. The sole stock furniture is a bakelite buttplate.
