Aussie hunting TV show debuts

Australia’s own adventure hunting TV show aired for the first time last night on Perth TV and will screen in other cities over the next few days.

Unfortunately, however, the Adelaide broadcast failed on Wednesday when Channel 44 has a technical problem, but it has just been announced that it will be put to air tonight (Thursday 2nd) at 9.30pm.

The debut episode of Beyond the Divide features presenter Rob Fickling on a five-day hunt for a trophy fallow buck with Morgan Trenaman in South Australia.

Rob said he was both relieved and excited that the show had gone to air: “I was feeling the pressure of it,” he said.

“The response after Perth was fantastic,” he said, “and we’ve bombarbed on Facebook and the forum.

“One person said to me he couldn’t believe he was sitting there watching ads for guns on television, so even the ads are getting a good response.”

Rob was buoyed by the comments he’d received about the quality of Beyond the Divide and said he was surprise but pleased that there’d been no negative feedback so far.

“But I’m sure that’ll come,” he laughed.

Networks are now also adding their own promotion of Beyond the Divide, which Rob sees as a very positive sign that they’re embracing it rather than shying away from hunting.

He expects to get indications about viewer numbers in the coming weeks.

“The upcoming broadcasts in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney will be the big tests,” he said. “They’re where the big audiences are.”

Speaking about the failed Adelaide broadcast, Rob called it “very disappointing”.

“I was devastated,” he said.

This first episode is part of the 10-part Series 1, which includes hunts from Australia, NZ, Africa and Canada.

The game animals featured are fallow, sambar, chital, banteng, boar, mountain goats and kudu.

Production of the second series is already underway.
