In scopes for dangerous game rifles, most hunters think a fixed, low-power model or a low-range 1.25-4×20 variable is nearly ideal.
The reason lies in low magnifcation which offers long, non- critical eye relief and wide field of view. But lowpower riflescopes and even Scout scopes, suffer from low twilight factor, that constant malady of low magnification. Even with the low range variable, 4x power works better in low light – the reason the majority of dangerous game hunters choose a variable. If light conditions are good enough at 1.25x, fine, but if not, 4x works so much better.
