Good .308 load for sambar

Q I plan to use my Remington Model Seven in .308 Win on a sambar hunt in Victoria. I’ll be stand hunting as well as spotting and stalking. Do you think that a handload that pushes the Nosler 165gn Partition from the 500mm barrel of my carbine at 2650fps (808m/s) is powerful enough to take down a large stag?

A I used a rifle similar to yours, a Remington Model 600 in .308, for a good many years, and took a lot of deer with it. A mate of mine is using a Model Seven just like yours, but he prefers the Federal factory load with 165gn Trophy Bonded Tip at 2700fps (823m/s).

This bullet is available as a component and I suggest you use it instead of the Nosler Partition as I believe it would make a meaningful difference on a mature sambar stag.
