Model 96 Swedish Mausers do not like .264” 6.5-cal bullets and you must source .263” ones instead

Bullet diameter of the 6.5×55 Swede

Q: I read what you wrote about the fine accuracy you obtained with Sellier & Bellot 6.5×55 factory ammunition and after trying some in my Model 96 Swedish Mauser, I totally agree with what you wrote about its accuracy.

Alas, it doesn’t chamber smoothly in my gun. I’ve been using the Serbian-made Prvi Partisan (PPU) stuff which is loaded to the original military specs for the Model 1896 Mauser. These are excellent loads. But now I want to start reloading and would appreciate any tips you can give me.

A I once had a Model 96 sporter with the military barrel for which I reloaded. When reloading 6.5×55 ammo for Model 96 Swedish Mausers, it is important to stay with a .263” diameter bullet, as the .264” bullet is often difficult to chamber in those particular rifles.

The original Prvi Partisan bullet mikes .263”, and it chambers smoothly.
