Q:I have a 7x57mm sporter built on a Turkish military Mauser 98 action.I believe that at one time you had a similar rifle, but have sincesold it. In your write-up you referred to the Turkish 7x57mm rifle ashaving an “intermediate” action. Could you please explain what this is?

A:The so-called intermediate action was commonly used for the 7x57mmcartridge. The Turkish Model 1903 action has the same length as themedium action used for the 8x57mm, but the bolt is 0.2″ shorterthan that of the medium action, while its receiver ring is .02″longer. Its length matches that of Peruvian Model 1909 Mauseractions. Incidently, the Turkish action has a large diameter receiverring (1.410″) but uses the small diameter (1.300″) barrelthread. This means there is a thicker wall of metal surrounding thebarrel shank.
