Using a remote-control gimbal for hunting at night means you stay warm and dry inside a vehicle while scanning for targets. Trouble is, most gimbals can’t handle the weather, which kinda defeats the purpose. But the Spydabot Sting H2O is seriously waterproof, with an IP66 rating that indicates it can withstand being blasted by high-pressure jets of water.
It’s a solidly built two-axis gimbal with wireless remote control, and it mounts to a vehicle using six adjustable magnetic feet that hang on very tightly.
A quick-release dual mounting plate holds your thermal in conjunction with accessories like laser pointers and torches. An optional wireless switch will turn the laser or torch on and off.
The gimbal pans endlessly and tilts through 52 degrees. Its movement is slower than the Spydabot Scorpion’s and doesn’t have the third axis, but this is more rugged and about ⅓ the price of the Scorpion.
Add your thermal device, connect it wirelessly to your smart device and you’re away. No cables or other impediments to convenient use.
I haven’t had it long enough to get a handle on battery life but it’s many hours and you can always add a battery pack.
It’s an all-weather setup and quite affordable, an excellent option for this kind of shooting.
