Chris Minns says his gun laws are keeping us safe but he has never quantified the claim

Minns doubles down on gun laws, gets shredded on social media

NSW Premier Chris Minns this week posted a short video spruiking his “nation-leading restrictions on firearms” and has been torn to shreds on social media by thousands of people rubbishing his statements.

The post attracted more than 3000 comments. I scrolled ands scrolled and could not find one that supported the premier’s spin.

He began by saying “there’s no real justification for having more [firearms] than a small military,” establishing a picture of law-abiding firearm owners running around like a paramilitary with more armaments than a real army.

It is a vile comparison and one that in any other circumstances — race, religion, sex — would cause uproar and be considered unacceptable of a political leader. But you and I know that already.

We also know the arguments against everything else he says in the video.

And we know the absolute bullshit behind his claim that his government was “open and honest about” the legislation that he rammed through parliament without consultation (so much for openness) and while deflecting blame onto hundreds of thousands of licensed firearm owners instead of the violent, extremist Muslim fundamentalists who were to blame for the (so much for honesty).

The South Australian Labor Government is back-pedalling on what’s clearly a Labor-led push to unjustifiably confiscate firearms from us. The Victorian Labor Government is stalling, probably waiting to see what happens in SA’s upcoming election before making any firm decisions.

Minns appears to be digging himself a deeper hole with an election 12 months away.

Surely they cannot be wondering why One Nation is surging in the polls. Even the more moderate among us are fed up with being kicked in the guts every time politicians need to look strong.

Australians in general are absolutely sick of the condescending dishonesty that spews from the mouths of our current leaders, and we shooters are copping it with full force.

We must be smart about how we vote. I won’t tell you how to place yours, but I do suggest you watch the following video to get a good understanding of how Australia’s preference system works and then consider how you might use it to ensure your vote goes as far as possible in achieving your wishes.

In the 1980s, a battle over firearm laws was a huge influence in the incumbent and comfortable NSW Labor Government of the day being turfed out in no uncertain terms. (We will talk more about this in the near future.)

I hope Minns is looking at that and feeling scared for his political future.
