The 2015 RIDGE Red Deer Ballot is now open. In the 20th year of the program, this is a great chance to hunt wild, free ranging red deer in Queensland. You can can hunt trophy stags, cull stags or meat animals on extensive areas of private land in Queensland. There are two draws, the first of which requires payment before December 15, 2014. The second closes on February 15, 2015. For further information, check out the RIDGE website or the 2015 RIDGE ballot information sheet.  Or, for an application form and pricing, click HERE.
The acronym RIDGE stands for Research Into Deer Genetics and Environment. It is a not-for-profit organisation that actively supports co-operation between landowners and hunters by providing legal access through a balloted hunting system. This system provides the opportunity for gathering research data and educating new hunters towards an ethical approach to hunting, while at the same time allowing the participating landowners to obtain a financial reward from wild deer on their land. There is a cost for hunting, but it is much less than if you were to book through a commercial guide.
