Some European countries limit the number of guns a shooter can own, but not the number of barrels he can have for any one rifle. Blaser Jagdwaffen GmbH, a small manufacturer in the Bavarian town of Isny makes a switch-barrel system that provides a unique and fascinating solution to the problem by offering a one-gun battery that includes an innovative rimfire conversion unit.
The Blaser R-93 is certainly different to any other rifle on the market; it doesn’t look like other rifles, doesn’t operate like other rifles and this straight-pull design which features total barrel/calibre interchangeability can only be described as revolutionary. That it’s extremely versatile into the bargain goes without saying.
While the Blaser R-93 is not the only straight-pull bolt action to be launched onto the sporting arms market, it is undoubtably the most technically advanced bolt action currently available. In fact, the R-93 is so innovative that it is almost universally considered to be the outstanding bolt-action of the 20th century.
Summarizing it’s unusual features, the Blaser combines a straight-pull action with a free-floating barrel and an alloy frame which acts as a bedding block; a 360-degree radial locking bolt with detachable, interchangeable bolt head; a trigger that has no sear, a multi-calibre magazine with straightline cartridge feed; a unique tang-mounted thumb safety that doubles as a cocking lever; and interchangeable barrel system in a wide range of calibres from .22 rimfire, .22 WMR and .17 HMR through .22- 250 to .416 Remington Magnum, and the .45 Blaser.
