Take a look inside the Barrett rifle factory, one of America’s most specialised and famous gun makers, which is now owned by Australia’s NIOA Group.
Barrett focusses on making long-range sniper rifles with an enviable reputation for accuracy and ruggedness, proven in conflicts around the world.
“We make a few rifles, but highly, highly precise rifles,” CEO Bryan James says in the video. “We are very low volume, very high precision.”
The video takes you through the details of Barrett’s manufacturing processes and explains how complex some of the processes are as the heavy-duty rifles made, piece by piece.
Many components are made on high-tech machinery but Barrett also includes a lot of hand-finishing in its processes, and every firearm is thoroughly checked by hand and test fired.
“One thing we do different at Barrett is all of our products are assembled by hand,” Nathan Lux, director of marketing and ecommerce, says. “So that’s one more opportunity to do a quality check.”
Barrett was founded in 1982 and grew to supply military, police and civilian markets, and claims one of its largest customer is now the US Government.
NIOA bought the company in 2023.
Two Barrett bolt-action models, the single-shot M99 and magazine-fed MRAD, are available on the commercial market in Australia, in a range of variations and calibres.
