Handgun manufacturer Glock has announced its Generation 6 handgun range of 9mm pistols, which will launch in the US on 20 January, 2026.
The most obvious difference in the new iterations of the popular Glock 17, Glock 19, Glock 45 and Glock 49 pistols is the grip, which is much more extensively chequered than before, and has had the palm-swell redesigned to provide better ergonomics.
The Modular Back Strap feature, first introduced on the Gen 4 series of Glock pistols, remains, and it is understood that these backstraps will work with Gen 6 pistols and vice-versa.
Additionally, a chequered thumb-rest has been provided just above the front of the trigger guard to accommodate different shooting styles, and the trigger itself is now a flat-faced design.
The official announcement from Glock states the new grip texture “combines two textures into one to create the perfect blend of performance and comfort on an extended surface area” and further notes that “the slide serrations are angled deeper into the slide to make the surface engagement more tactile for slide manipulations”.
The Gen 6 Glocks have also been confirmed to be optics-ready using a new style of optics cut on the slide with three adaptor plates to suit different sights; the guns also retain the traditional iron sights.
A spokesman for Australian Glock importer NIOA confirmed the new models are destined for Australia.
“NIOA is working with Glock on an Australian-compliant version of the latest model for sporting shooters,” they said.
“In the meantime, the Gen 5 pistol will be available throughout 2026.”
