Chris Waters the Huntsman

Video: The fall that changed the hunt — reflections on success and failure

What happens when a minor falls during a hunt knocks your scope out of alignment but you don’t realise it? That’s the fate that befalls Chris Waters in the first episode of the new season of The Huntsman.

It sets Chris off on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster as he misses a couple of plum shots, but it’s not all that makes this 23-minute video so entertaining.

Hunting with hunting chef Jordi Ellingham and Accurate Hunts guide Dodge Keir, Chris heads out chasing fallow deer and goats, primarily for the meat.

There’s some lovely footage and plenty of laughs as the hunt progresses over a few days in steep country in the NSW Central West.

Along the way, Jordi prepares and cooks a kid goat over hot coals using a spice rub, and makes it look as easy as it probably is — and tasty!

But the central theme is that little fall with its big implications, and how Chris deals with it.

This is a video of an honest hunt with some interesting reflections on success and failure.

If you enjoyed the video, there’s this bonus episode to complement it:
