Reloading for a replica Model 1873

Q: I recently purchased an Italian copy of the Winchester Model 1873 in .44-40, mainly for Western Action shooting, but I’d also like to hunt pigs with it.

The action seems good and tight and it is most likely made of stronger steels than the original.

Can you recommend some hot handloads?

Mick O’Hare

A: No way! The Model 1873 in either original or modern replica form is not a strong design due to its toggle-link system of locking the bolt.

Forget about loading ’em hot for this oldtimer.

I suggest you only use data for .44-40 revolvers.
