Alcor .223 targets IPSC shooting as first shipment lands

The Alcor PB223 button-release rifle had its first live-firing public outing last weekend at the Victorian IPSC state titles, where competitors had a chance to shoot it.

Practical shooting competition is considered a prime market for the rifle, which uses a gas-operated cycling system to eject rounds after firing, before the shooter chambers another round by pressing a button to release the spring-assisted bolt carrier.

Importer Hunt’s Shooting Supplies said the rifle was well received at the event and garnered plenty of positive comment.

Meanwhile, Turkish manufacturer Akdas has released a video (below) showing how to disassemble the Alcor, and it features the components of the gas system.

The first shipment of the .223-chambered Alcor arrives in Australia this week and will be distributed to dealers shortly, according to Hunt’s.

Dealers are taking orders for the Alcor, which retails for a recommended $1599.

“As of Monday, our sample rifle has fired over 1200 rounds of many different manufactured types of ammunition without any problems or faults,” a Hunt’s spokesperson told Sporting Shooter.

He said the Akdas factory, which has no connection with other factories he has dealt with, was producing a product he has full confidence in.
