Akdas Alcor push-button 223

New Alcor .223 push-button repeater coming to Australia

The new Akdas Alcor .223 push-button bolt-action hunting rifle is coming to Australian gun shops with a 10-round magazine, sling and hard case for an expected $1599.

The factory has already begun production and been given export approval by the Turkish government, and the Australian Importer, Hunt’s Shooting Supplies, has confirmed the Alcor has been given import approval as a Category B firearm by Australian authorities.

The new Alcor PBR .223 will initially be sold only with a walnut stock but synthetic versions will follow

Barring delays of any kind, the Alcor will be on sale here before the end of the year, and dealers are taking orders now.

The Alcor push-button rifle is loosely based on the existing Akdas semi-automatic design but with critical differences in components and function that mean it cannot be converted to semi-auto fire.

Instead, like other push-button firearms, it ejects cases after firing and then locks open with the bolt back. The system is gas-operated.

When the shooter is ready to fire again, they press a release button on the right side of the receiver, and a spring pushes the bolt into battery so the rifle is ready to go.

Hunt’s is also now importing .30-30 and .44 Magnum lever-guns

The first shipment will feature blued barrelled actions and walnut stocks, while a synthetic version will follow in the future once a mould is made.

Importer Kay Hunt said that anyone who wanted a synthetic stock but did not want to wait for it could buy a walnut-stocked rifle and would later be offered a synthetic stock to substitute “at the right price”.

The Alcor comes with a chrome-lined 47cm (18.5”) barrel with a fast 1:7” twist rate.

The alloy receiver has a picatinny rail on top, and open sights are also provided.

The Alcor is reasonably light at 2.9kg and has a compact length of 101cm thanks to the short barrel.

Hunt’s had been planning to bring in a different push-button rifle, the Chimera, a few years ago but shelved its plans after the manufacturer struggled to get it cycling reliably.

The first Alcors are in the country for show and assessment, and if you’re going to the SHOT Expo this weekend you’ll be able to handle one at the Hunt’s stand (number 68).

Hunt’s has also announced a range of new lever-action rifles that will be on display for the first time — the Hugtek .30-30 and .44 Magnum.
