Entries have opened in Australia’s first hunting media competition, HuntFest, which will recognise the best hunting photographs and videos taken or produced by hunters.
There are open and junior (under 18) categories for: best hunting photograph, best wildlife photograph, best game/trail camera photograph, best family hunting scene photograph, best hunting DVD, best wildlife or conservation DVD and best educational DVD.
There is also a section for professionals in the category of best Australian commercially made hunting DVD.
HuntFest has been organised by the South Coast Hunters Club and is officially approved by the Eurobodalla Shire Council as an important tourism event for the region.
Entrants are being encouraged to enter their best hunting photographs and videos and then come with their families to enjoy a festival of hunting-related culture and local Narooma attractions during 8-10 June 2013.
South Coast Hunters Club president Dan Field said HuntFest is all about promoting responsible hunting and at the same time it will boost tourism which will help the South Coast economy.
The rules are clearly laid out in the entry form. Organisers are looking for ethical, humane treatment of animals and also observance of the hunting laws, particularly in regard to public land hunting in New South Wales.
It is set up so that hunters and their families can visit the event, and also do other things while they are in town, such as fishing, whale watching, wine tasting and enjoying local restaurants, hotels and accommodation.
We are asking hunters to put in their best work right now, and then come on the June long weekend to see the HuntFest results – and have a look at the many other attractions Narooma has to offer.
In addition to having official support from local council, more than 20 local Narooma businesses have already signed on as supporters.
Game Council NSW has confirmed it will be an exhibitor in 2013 to provide the latest hunting and licensing information to the public, as well as assisting in the judging process.
