A bunch of youngsters headed to Warwick, Queensland for a safety course run by the SSAA and NIOA.

Juniors learn shooting basics in NIOA/SSAA initiative

Firearms importer NIOA got together with the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia to run a safety course for kids during the summer school holidays at Warwick in Queensland.

The course catered for 16 juniors who learned how to use firearms safely and responsibly. They are also now equipped to apply for a minor’s gun licence and can take the next step to competition or recreational shooting.

The safety course ran over a day and included a comprehensive theory component that included aspects such as identifying firearms and firearm actions, ammunition types, social responsibility and safety, storing firearms, legal aspects of firearm ownership, and firearm and hunting etiquette.

Gun safety procedures, such as identifying firing zones and crossing fences, were also covered as the group of 11-14-year-olds developed into safe and responsible firearms users as well as potential Aussie champs.

The excellent NIOA TV put together a feature presentation of the course that showed all its aspects and the kids having loads of fun.
