The well-crafted Spanish single-shot, break-open Bergara is designed to handle centrefire cartridges reliably and accurately.
The Bergara Scout looks likely to set a new standard for a high-quality, break-open single-shot carbine with interchangeable barrel features. This new Spanish-made carbine is short, light and handy and boasts a strong frame to which is hinged a partially fluted, medium weight barrel. My test gun was made of AISI416 stainless steel, but the Bergara is also available in AISI 4140 carbon steel. The review gun has a black synthetic stock with cosmetically sleek lines, but is also available with the option of Realtree APG HD camo, wooden camo, or highly resistant soft- touch finish.
The extremely light weight of 2.63kg sans sights makes the Bergara a very attractive proposition for the hunter who wants the ultimate in a handy-dandy ultralight mountain rifle. The hunter is able to dismantle the gun by breaking it down into two parts – 512 mm and 43mm long – for ease of transportation. On reaching the hunting area he could reassemble the Bergara and carry it in one hand or slung across his back while hiking over the steepest, roughest terrain. It will even fit in his backpack
The knurled hammer has an extension for use with a scope that can be fitted to either side of the hammer to accomodate right and lefthanders alike. It has a lefthand thread so that it doesn’t work loose through being cocked a lot of times. The Monte-Carlo buttstock is ambidextrous having a cheekpiece on both sides. The gun comes without iron sights and is stocked for scope use. Every rifle comes with a piccatiny rail attached which takes Weaver-style rigs.
