A new online Australian hunting video series has been launched, produced by Chris Waters, aka the Australian Huntsman, and episode one suggests it’s an entertaining and highly watchable effort.
This first episode follows Chris and guide Dwayne in the Northern Tablelands of NSW during a few of this summer’s hottest days, first scouting and then hunting.
The aim is to get meat in this episode, while the next one will follow the pursuit of a billy goat.
It’s a good hunt but not a perfect one. Chris wounds one of two goats and has to track and dispatch it.
Many hunting shows won’t show you this kind of reality but Chris, to his credit, not only deals with the situation well but shows how it is done.
You’ll learn a few things from Chris in this video, including useful hints about finding and identifying game by the sign and their trails.
The episode runs for just under 15 minutes and you can watch it below.
Hi Mick, someone just shared this article with me that you’ve written up on the first episode of The Australian Huntsman series. It’s a great read! Thank you, I really appreciate your support and insights into the video.
You’re spot on that most hunts probably wouldn’t share a bungled shot, but I personally feel that if we are not authentic in recounting our experiences we cheat ourselves, the animal and the audience. If we can’t admit that we get things wrong how can we ever grow or expect others to learn from our example.
Thank you again for the write up. I hope you enjoy episode two which drops next week. Hope you are doing well mate and getting out for a hunt yourself!

You’re welcome, Chris. You’re spot on about admitting to mistakes; it can only benefit everyone in the end. I enjoyed the video and can’t wait for more!
